SNIPE WESTERN HEMISPHERE & ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

Snipes Return to Boston

The Snipes are returning to Boston to compete for the title of the Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship.  With the hiatus from the pandemic, the event was moved to 2021 and has 27 entries - a small but strong group representing 6 nations including Brazil, Chile, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico and the US.

Reigning WH&O champions Ernesto Rodriguez and crew Kathleen Tocke (USA) should be strong contenders, coming off two back-to-back major victories in the Snipe Europeans in Split, Croatia and the most recent North American Championship in Beverly, Massachusetts just last week. Rodriguez is no stranger to the Winthrop race course, having won the 2014 North Americans sailed at this venue at Cottage Park YC. Also in attendance is multi-Snipe world champion Augie Diaz (USA) with Barbie Brotons (ARG) as his crew.

Racing begins on Tuesday through Saturday with 9 races scheduled.  The forecast looks good through the week with great racing planned.
