SNIPE WESTERN HEMISPHERE & ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

Championship is Completed and All Participants Displayed Skills to Reach the Title

We reached the end of the Western Hemisphere and Orient Championship for the International Snipe Class, and thankfully in a sunny day. Six days of races where participants experienced all kinds of emotions.

Teens and adults from Argentina, Uruguay, Brasil, Chile, Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, Canada, Japan, USA and Ecuador converted this event into a Sail Party.

Before starting the final race we asked the fleet their opinion regarding this Championship. What did they feel and if they could share their experience with us. They pointed out several things they enjoyed regardin the organization, for example, logistics for the transer of the boats in and out of the water, punctuality of races and the after race receptions. We heard comments such as "highly above our expectations", "everybody was very attentive, we could feel that all the club staff cared about every single detail to assist us in all we could need", "we really enjoyed the after race receptions, when we arrived after the race we were welcomed with a warm meal", and "races always started on time" and "winds were perfect for this race".

It looks like the whole organization matched with the circumstances showing complete compromise on behalf of the main actors, "all participants".

Morning winds came from the Est at 7 knots and kept that pace until noon allowing all participants a quick sail to the starting area.

The two races scheduled for today were completed. The first race started at 13:02 with all 42 boats on on the line. The weather conditions were consistent with East winds of 7 knots for the 2nd race. The Race Committee set up in virtually the same area  as the first day. In the first race, Augusto Amato & Constanza Alvarez from Argentina crossed first followed by Ernesto Rodriguez & Kathleen Tocke from the USA.

In the second race was the same wind as the first with the velocity to 7 knots from 90 degrees. Edgar Diminich & Andrae Quebedo from Ecuador won the second race followed by Rene Torrecillas Abreu & Lorena Fundora Rodriguez of Cubar.

After completing the last day of the competition, standings are as follows:
1st Ernesto Rodriguez & Kathleen Tocke - USA - 42 points
2nd Juliana Duque & Rafael Martins - BRA - 44 points
3rd Luciano Pesci & Barbara Brotons - ARG - 45 points

Ernesto Rodriguez & Kathleen Tocke become Champions of the Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship for the International Snipe Class taking the Challenger Cup. Congratulations!

The Championship closing ceremony was held on the Olivos Nautico Club premises with words of thanks from the Club authorities and Class officials. After the ceremony CN Olivos held with a typical Argentine food followed by recognition of the winnters.
